Saturday, October 11
10:00 – 3:00
New Garden Friends Meeting, Greensboro
More than 40 Piedmont Friends gathered in-person or virtually for fellowship, to be inspired by Eileen Flanagan, and to encourage each other into nonviolent resistance.

During the afternoon session, Friends explored more deeply Mass Nonviolent Noncooperation and Civil Resistance in slides adapted from David Hunter’s presentation for the June 1, 2025, Urgent Call national zoom. The day finished with small group sharing of queries led by Vernie Davis.
#1: In what ways are you personally currently resisting?
#2: What other ways of resisting have you heard about today that you might feel led to participate in now or going forward?
#3: How can we encourage others to join resistance activities and build community to support ourselves and others?
Eileen Flanagan, Philadelphia Quaker activist and author, will join us virtually (at 11:00). She’ll share inspiration from her new book Common Ground: How the Crisis of the Earth is Saving Us from Our Illusion of Separation, which includes lessons in:
- spiritually grounded activism
- engaging in nonviolent resistance and
- building supportive coalitions.
After a “bring-your-own” lunch fellowship time, we’ll review the information from Daniel Hunter, from Choose Democracy, which he shared on the national Urgent Call in June. Then in small groups we’ll explore ways we are already resisting and how we, as Friends, can be in action and support each other to preserve and strengthen democracy and justice.
Child Care will be available, as needed.
